Watch The 100

Based on the young adult novel of the same name, this television series is set nearly a century into the future, during a time when what is left of humanity lives high above the Earth on a space station called the Ark. The Ark though is slowly dying, and the remains of humanity will run out of air in a matter of months if they don't do something drastic.

In order to offer the human race their best chance at survival, the governing council sends 100 juvenile prisoners down to the likely radiation soaked planet that used to be humanity's home. The teenagers are outfitted with monitoring bracelets so the Council can determine whether the ground is hospitable. A stowaway who attempts to kill the Chancellor before muscling his way on board the drop ship heading for home complicates matters for everyone.

What follows is a literal battle for survival on Earth and a political power struggle on the Ark. While the teens attempt to fashion shelters, explore their surroundings, and give in to hormonal urges, they discover that they may not be alone on the planet after all - some vestiges of humanity may have survived, and they might not be happy to share their planet with a group of kids who just dropped from the sky. The adults on the Ark spend their time trying to find a way to extend the life of the space station they inhabit - vacillating between keeping the population in the dark to the direness of the situation and telling them everything they can. Everyone on the Council appears to have their own agenda, jockeying for power and authority as often as the teens on the ground have emotional outbursts.

The series is a look at what humanity does when its options for survival are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
